Honouring Our Roots: The 1980s Island Legacy
We are proud to carry legacy cannabis strains that honor the rich history of the central Vancouver Island cannabis scene. Back in the 1980s, local supply could be incredibly volatile, often leaving the market with periods of scarcity. This era marked the very beginning of the “Hydro Boom,” when cultivation transitioned from unpredictable outdoor fields to sophisticated, controlled indoor environments. Before that shift, iconic, world-famous local strains like Skunkweed and Texada Timewarp were local treasures heavily exported to international markets like the United States and Europe. To fill the supply gaps at home, the Island relied on legendary imports that defined a generation of consumers. We have carefully curated modern expressions of these historical cultivars to keep Vancouver Island’s cannabis heritage alive:
Acapulco Gold: Decades ago, this iconic sativa arrived at our shores in compressed, heavy bricks that had to be broken apart carefully with a knife before being rolled or smoked. Today, you don’t need the knife. We carry premium, terpene-rich cuts of this old-school sativa available in both dried flower and convenient pre-rolls.
Texada Timewarp: As a true outdoor staple of the Gulf Islands, this strain is a piece of West Coast history. We celebrate these genetics through coastal-grown, organic offerings from brands like GOOD BUDS and limited-edition heritage crosses from Weathered Islands Craft Cannabis.
Black Afghanistan Hash: During the import era, Afghanistan was a global epicenter for traditional hashish. The legendary “Gold Seal” kilo bricks would travel across the country, eventually landing on the Island. Soft, malleable, and intensely aromatic, it delivered a deeply relaxing, tranquil body buzz. Historically sold on the legacy market for around $10 a gram, we keep that tradition alive. We source authentic, hand-pressed styles from legal heritage brands like Vortex, maintaining that classic standard for today’s connoisseurs.
